Meet the Coach
“When people discover their own way to develop and engage, in alignment with what they truly believe, they are energized and empowered to create fulfillment in their lives.” Ken Burger
Ken helps clients realize this truth through the coaching process and by injecting energy and accountability into their planning and problem solving challenges. “When individuals begin to understand the momentum they can generate by acting in harmony with their values, the process becomes automatic and self-sustaining.” Ken guides clients to understand that awareness generates options and energy. These newly discovered assets become available to target and focus on their challenges and help power them to success.
Before finding his home in the coaching community, Ken’s work experience ranged from hog farmer, bus boy, furniture builder and butcher’s apprentice to teacher, Financial Advisor, CEO, Brand Officer and Operations Consultant. He brings this wide range of experience, the skill of intuitive listening, and a reputation for team and consensus building to individual and corporate partners. Particularly Ken leveraged his skills and experience during a nineteen-year tenure as the Executive Director of Houston Group Homes, Inc., leading that organization to program excellence and statewide recognition in Indiana. He left the organization with a legacy of teamwork and a reputation for being an exemplary service provider. As CEO, Ken was active in the industry’s professional organization, the Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities (Inarf), serving on training and policy committees and as Treasurer to the Board of Directors. He also guided the Leadership Development team during Inarf’s re-branding initiative. Ken is proud to be a Bulldog! That is to say, he is an alumnus of Butler University at Indianapolis where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Educational Psychology. Adding to his Liberal Arts education and eclectic work experience Ken earned certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). He is also a certified graduate of the Coach U Core Essentials of Coaching Program (CCEG). Ken is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the International Coach Federation (ICF) and the Indianapolis chapter of ICF. A desire to guide others to have perspective changing “ah ha!” moments motivated Ken to hire his own coach and begin training with Coach University. Ken is ACC certified by the International Coach Federation and conducts his business according to the Codes of Ethics and the Guiding Principles of Coach University, the ICF, HRCI and SHRM. In collaboration with his mentor coach, Cathy Lee Winterfield, Ken has begun writing his first book entitled, Turning Elephants into Chickens; the Magic of Coaching. In it Ken relays insight into the process of guiding “shifts” in perception and perspective through the clarifying of values and personal development. Ken also recounts some of the early coaching conversations that helped him realize his own “dream job” was coaching. Ken is the father of four sons and a daughter and resides in Crawfordsville, Indiana with their mother and his wife of 33 years, Karen. When not working, Ken enjoys reading, strumming a guitar, remodeling his home and walking with his dog, Jaxon.
